Desert Landscapes : The North American desert is characterized by a lack of water getting less than 10 inches of rain annually. These arid areas of extreme heat and aridity, deserts are among the most fragile ecosystems on the earth. They are occupied by specially adapted plants and animals capable of thriving in this water limited environment.

The desert landscape is some of the most beautiful to photograph in all the west. The sunrise and sunset turns into a rainbow of colors as the sun sets low in the horizon. I hope you enjoy these desert landscape photographs. They were taken in Big Bend National Park, Texas, Joshua Tree Nation Park, California and Great Sand Dunes National Park, Colorado.

Arizona Landscapes : Arizona landscape is dominated by desert, red rocks, and magnificent vistas. These photos attempt to capture what I saw in this desert state.

Alaska Landscapes : Outstanding landscape photography requires outstanding light, morning or evening with some mix of clouds and or water reflection. The weather in Alaska on this trip was not condusive to colorful sunsets or dramatic sunrises. The clouds tended to block out all sunlight. The night, which never got really dark just turned to a brighter gray at sunrise and stayed gray all day. The light was fine for micro-landscapes, such as the birch trees. It only made me resolve to return some day for better light, the wish of all landscape photographers.

Alaska Landscapes

Colorado Landscapes : My second favorite state, Colorado, has the mountains, desert, vistas, aspens, animals and rivers that are pleasing to the eye. The weather is cool and dry and the people are friendly. I'd live there if there were no Texas.
