Rocky Mountain National Park is in northern central Colorado with the closest city being Estes Park. RMNP became the nation's tenth national park in 1915. It is primarily a mountain ecosystem with two-thirds of the park above treeline. Two rivers flow through the park, the Colorado River and Fall River. The headwaters of both rivers are fed by the melting mountain snow.

RMNP is traversed by the Trail Ridge Road, highest continuous auto highway in America.

birdshooter > This is Sprague Lake, RMNP at dawn. The sun was still below the horizon but the reflected light off the clouds tuned the sky red and blue. This is one beautiful place.
birdshooter > We found this hungy coyote on Skyline Drive around 12,000 feet elevation. He was trying to make a meal out of lichens and what ever else he could find up there.
birdshooter > This is a Western Bluebird. This was a cold morning in September and he fluffed up to add some insulation to keep warm. He stayed busy flying and catching insects.
birdshooter > This Bull Elk was letting every other bull know the cows behind him were his and to leave them alone! He had about 12 to 14 cows with him and there were two satellite bulls trying to steal one or two.
birdshooter > You can see this guy was busy. He did not want to share any of his ladies with the other guys. The cows just wanted the best guy. This is Rocky Mountain National Park in September.
