birdshooter  > National Parks > Yellowstone National Park
Yellowstone is the country's first and largest national park in the lower fourty-eight and one of the most biologically complex ecosystems in the world. The park sits on the Yellowstone Plateau formed by volcanos and carved by glaciers. It is one large culdren of volcanic activity. It was named from the Minnetaree Indians who called the area Rock Yellow River and later transformed into "Yellow Stone". Teddy Roosevelt visited the area and later designated it as America's first National Park.

Yellowstone offers you closeup, within reason, expierences with Bison (Buffalo), Elk, Mule Deer, Grizzly Bears, Coyotes, Wolves, and I could go on. The landscape becons the photographer.

birdshooter > It's sundown on the Firehole River, and there is just enought light for one more cast. You look around at what God has created; the landscape, the animals, sunsets and sunrises and wonder how anyone cannot believe?
birdshooter > Madison River at sunset.
birdshooter > This Bison is suning himself in the middle of the day. The white substance is not snow but calcium residue from the geysers and steam leaks around.
birdshooter > These bison are grazing and being watched by the elk amoung the trees.
birdshooter > This is the Nez Perce River, named after that Indian tribe, which flows through Yellowstone.
birdshooter > This was one of the largest bull elk that I saw in Yellowstone. He is wading in the middle of the Madison River and gave everyone and great view and photograph.
birdshooter > Predawn on the Madison River in mid-September the bull elk were busy trying to keep the cows herded together.
birdshooter > This big bull elk is tasting the air to determine if any of his cows are ready.
birdshooter > This is a bull Moose. The moose were also in rut and seeking cows to breed. This photo was taken in the Targee National Forest in Idaho just west of Yellowstone. We saw this big guy standing there about a mile away and we drove up to within 400 yards. We then were able to stalk closer and get this photo of him before he walked into the woods. My hunting partner stalked to within 20 yards of him before he felt pressured to leave.
