The Big Thicket Natural Preserve has some really strange plants. The pitcher plant actually eats insects. The insect is attracted to the plant, crawls down the open shoot, and never comes out. Strange.

birdshooter > Pitcher Plant is a carnivorous plant that grows in East Texas swamps and found in the Big Thicket. Insects crawl into the open green tubular stem seeking the sweet nectar. The insect slips on the smooth inner surface. The insect becomes trapped by the downward pointed hairs preventing its escape.
