birdshooter  > People > Bissey - A Tribute
Bissey, a Silky Terrier, was my dog for thirteen years. She was originally my daughter's, but I was the one who fed her, played with her and took care of her and so she became my dog. My daughter Ginger got another one, a Yorkie. Bissey was with me for 13 years. She was a good friend and constant companion. She was everything a dog could be; loyal, loving, obedient, spoiled, healthy until the end and she loved to chase cats. She would follow me every where I would go in the house or outside. She would get upset when she didn't know where I was and she would almost cry like a small child until I came and got her. I would often take her with me on photography trips to the park or we would just go for a drive. She loved the wind in her face. She was comfortable across my lap on those long drives. She went with me to Big Bend National Park on one trip, which is not a place recommended for pets. She was very smart and I thaught her many tricks; to shake hands (left paw only), to play dead, to roll over, to speak and even bark the answer to addition problems. Her favorite place was on my lap or my chest when we took a nap. She loved treats (dog bisquits) and expected a treat for any performance. I remember on one occasion while walking with a leash with me she turned the corner and walked right into a cat. Before I could pull her back she had bitten the cat's tail but was only left with a mouth full of hair. I used to turn her loose and let her tree cats but she got to where she didn't want to chase them anymore. One one such confrontation a cat clawed her eye and we had to see the vet when it became infected. Bissey slowed down in her old age. She couldn't go down the stairs after falling twice and hurting herself. She would let me know if she wanted down the stairs. She became very ill last week and I took her to the vet Monday morning. She died later that day. The doctor said she had cancer. I took her to a friend's farm in Tomball and buried her under a huge oak tree. Bissey was a wonderful dog, a constant companion, and loving pet. I lost a good friend. She will be missed dearly. I thank my God for giving Bissey to me and the years of companionship she provided.
