I got to Bitburg Air Base, W. Germany in January 1967 assigned to the 71st Tac Missile Squadron (Mace Missile) launch crew. After training for several months as a launch crew member, I was suddenly and abruptly transferred to the 336th MMS, Nuclear Weapons Missile Support Maintenance. I moved to the MMS barracks into Bill Muzenski's room. This started a three year friendship. He and I conspired to get me transferred to the 500 Area, Aircraft Nuclear Weapons. We did everything together; took over the barracks snack bar and ran it until Bill rotated back to the US in Dec. We bought and sold three VW's which we used in the snack bar business and to get around, go to night school at U of Maryland, and travel to 18 different countries in Europe. We played golf together at some of the finest golf courses in Europe. I lost contact with him after he got out in Dec 69 and me in Jan 70. After joining Facebook a few months ago I searched for his name and found him. After emails and telephone I was coming to Chicago in Aug 09 for our grandson's 1st birthday and I decided to drive up to Racine to see him. It was a long time in coming but I found my friend Muz, Bill Muzenski.
After 40 years of wondering what happened to my best friend in the Air Force, we finally meet. From 1967 through 1969 at Bitburg Air Base, Muz was not only my roommate, he was my business partner in the barracks snack bar, traveling companion, fellow student at U of Maryland, fellow crew member on a nuclear weapons team at Bitburg, co owner of three Volkswagons, and golfing partner. This reunion was the result of finding him on Facebook, and inquiring about his background.
