According to some historians, its foundations date from the fifth century and was for many centuries the property of the powerful family of Villeneuve-Vence and experienced its first serious setback in 1592 when the troops of the Duke of Savoy sent 200 cannonballs that partially destroyed . The castle was restored in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. In 1838, the family Vence sold the castle to a villager, Jacques Flory for the sum of 17,000 francs in gold.
