Astro-Photography: Terlingua Ghost Town-BBNP & Milky Way

Terlingua Ghost Town, Texas

These photos were taken with a Nikon D750 and Nikkor 20mm f/3.5 AIS lens. Most of the exposures were made at 3200-6400-9000 ISO and varied the shutter between 20s-30s with the lens at f/3.5. Photographing the night sky is not that hard you just have to go to a place with dark skies. A cloudy sky will also spoil your photos. For me and my friends, Terlingua, Texas and Big Bend National Park offer us the best possible place. You will need a good sturdy tripod and a DSLR with a fast lens.

The image was made with a Nikon D750 & Nikkor 20mm f/3.5 lens; ISO 9000 at 30s at f/3.5. There is considerable noise at this ISO, however, using a software called Neat Image, it eliminates it. The image was process thru ACDSee Pro 9 and saved as a TIFF file. It was opened in Neat Image and the noise was removed and saved as a JPG. I used ACDSee Pro 9 as the final edit step.

Terlingua Ghost Town Ruins and the Milky Way

The image was made with a Nikon D750 & Nikkor 20mm f/3.5 AIS lens. This exposure was made at 9000 ISO, 30s @ f/3.5. "Terlingua" refers tothe mining district in Texas in SE Brewster County. The town grew to a city of 2000 when cinnabar was discovered. The element MERCURY is extracted from cinnabar. Terlingua is located near the western entrance to Big Bend National Park. It is a community of several hundred people now with a variety of homes. The Starlight Theater offers some of the best hamburgers in the US and there's live music with your meal.

The sky was a little cloudy which makes the Milky Way not shine. The old house was painted with a small flashlight for about 3 seconds. I was constantly looking for rattlesnakes.
