The small town of Vence is situated in the foothills about 30 minutes northwest of Nice. It claims to be the Provence "City of Art." The painter Matisse lived there until his death. There are numerous galleries and I've met my share of artists who live there, at least occasionally. My wife and I would rent a flat for two or three weeks when we visited relatives during the summer.
The town used to be a walled city like so many villages near the coast. I noticed the painting walking near the wall and thought it deserved a photo.
