White Flight

Bosque del Apache NWR, Tuesday afternoon
We returned to the Bosque that afternoon and found several thousand Snow geese next to the road and in the road. More and more of them waded up to the gravel road to get the small rocks for their gizzard. They had completely covered the road blocking cars from driving out of the Refuge. I saw the photograph before it happened and got into position with a wide angle lens. As a car attempted to leave it had to cross the massive group of geese. It approached very slowly at first and the geese were moving out of the way. Someone slammed a car door and it was "panic city." It was a race to see who could get back in the water first.
It's out last day at the refuge, on the road all day Friday. Adios.
