The Provence region of France is known for its lavender fields, rows and rows of the scented flowers. Notre-Dame de Senanque Abbey is a Cistercian abbey near the village of Gordes in the Vacluse region of Provence. It was founded in 1148 by the Cistercian monks.
It is still an active abbey. Cistercian monks grow lavender and are bee keepers. Their harvests and the tourists trade keep the doors of the abbey open.
