The Cattle Egret is often seen along the highway near grazing cows. The cattle stirs up insects and small amphibians as they walk and the egrets are nearby ready to pounce on the prey. They are not impressive color wize except during the breeding season. This guy is in display at his nest on Heron Island at H.A.S. High Island sanctuary.
This Whooping Crane is about to devour its favorite meal, a Blue Crab. The blue crabs are why the Whooping Cranes come to Aransas NWR every fall. This photo was taken from the boat "Skimmer" Rockport Adventures. It is an excellent way to see the Whoopers up close. I highly recommended it.
