All aboard. The train started right at the dock where we disembarked the ship.

This is the original Chilkook Trail littered with artifacts from the gold rush still left in place where they were dropped by miners going over the pass.
The trail came right up this steep rock gorge. This is known as "Dead Horse Trail" because so many horses died along this trail. There were an estimated 3000 in one year.
The engines switch ends and the back becomes the front for the trip back to Skagway.

A narrow ledge right of way is the path of the railroad to the top of the mountain. The rails are three feet across and know as a narrow gage railroad allowing for sharper turns and narrow rights of way.
