A Magellanic penguin of Magdelana Island, Chile
Magdalenic Island is the home to Chile's largest penguin colonies. The island was declared a national monument in 1982. It is reached by private ferry from Punta Arenas after a two hour voyage across the Beagle Channel.
A few of the 300,000 penguins on the island dot the landscape. The light house is unmanned and part of it was burned in a recent fire.
