  • Burton Cafe, a Texas landmark, reopened under new ownership in January. They are opened from 8am-8pm, closed Mon & Wed. I always make it a point to stop and have lunch there.
The new owners are Lucy and George Zaranovic. She is from Germany and he is from Yugoslavia. George was born in Yugoslavia. His father was a German POW and chose to stay in Yugoslavia after WW2. In 1955 Yugoslavia told all the German to leave and his family immigrated to Germany. He became a baker. They came to Texas in 1986. They eventually settled in Brenham and bought the Burton Cafe in January 2011. Their daughter, Anja, who is also a trained chef helps with the baking the delicious pies and cakes served in the Burton Cafe. It's a great place to eat.
