Bald eagle in Brazos Bend State Park, December 15th, 2008
Jay Mangum and I observed him sailing over Big Creek and landing on this large overhanging limb. We were able to stop get out with cameras and take a few pictures of him before flying off. He was buzzed by a blue jay which Jay Mangum captured on one of his shots.
I took this photo in Ketchikan, Alaska. There were more eagles in this port city than any of the other ports of call on our cruise.
The interior of the mosque was quite dark. I pushed the ISO up to 9000 to get a decent hand held photo. Tripods were not allowed. Tourists were only allowed in one part of the mosque as worshipers were in the other side. The lens used was a Nikon 16-35mm f/4. At 16mm it was not wide enought to include the whole ceiling. The wires you see hanging from the ceiling hold the interior lights.
This is one of my favorite photographs and one of the first I ever took as a bird photographer. I happened to be walking the Red Buckeye Trail in eastern part of Brazos Bend State Park in mid-Oct and saw this Barred Owl perched. I approached him quietly with a Nikon F100 with a 300mm lens. His attention was focused on the ground. I snapped several slides of him before he leaped off the branch to the ground and onto a green lizzard. He took the lizzard up about 40 feet in an oak and consumed him. His flight down to the ground and up into the oak tree was as silent as a butterfly. They are amazing animals.
This cow looks like the "Blue Bell" ice cream cow on its commercials.

These photos were taken with a Nikon D750 and Nikkor 20mm f/3.5 AIS lens. Most of the exposures were made at 3200-6400-9000 ISO and varied the shutter between 20s-30s with the lens wide open.
The Pileated Woodpecker is next to the largest woodpecker. It was the largest until the Ivory bill was found in Arkansas. This Pileated was photographed at the Moore Sanctuary, H.A.S in Houston. This is one of a nesting pair found along the bayou that runs through the property.
